Zhao Yuting Northwestern Polytechnical University Abstract AdHoc network time varying wireless channel characteristics and changing network topology leads to frequent intermittent link makes a lot of lost packets This requires high level application protocol can quickly access the underlying transport protocol or channel state information between all levels of an agreement to exchange information needed to quickly make decisions to improve the success rate of packet reception Based on QualNet network simulator was designed and implemented a network protocol stack cross layer interaction mechanism The results show that the mechanism can be quickly set up cross layer protocol interaction making high level agreements in a timely manner for the lower agreement of useful information which can be according to the channel condition dynamic adjustment of network protocol settings to improve packet sent the success rate optimize network transmission performance Keywords wireless networking cross layer self organization simulation 1 Introduction Based on the traditional TCP IP network protocol stack will be open in all protocol layers to separate adjacent layer by a good layer of direct communication between the interface not adjacent layer does not allow direct communication Focus on the completion of each protocol layer all the features within this layer but do not have to care about the functions of other layers to achieve The benefit of this is within equipment manufacturers to focus on a protocol layer of the network equipment development optimization and the functionality to add as long as the interface between layers to ensure standardization it would not affect the whole network interoperability The idea of encouraging technological innovation of equipment manufacturers making emerging market inexpensive high quality products and services contributed to the rapid development of Internet the global Internet However the dynamic network of wireless and wireline wireless hybrid heterogeneous networks the strict hierarchical limit the flexibility of access to information enables network designers can not be the dynamic nature of the wireless network to make adaptive optimization leading to the traditional wired for strictly layered network protocol stack in the network can not efficiently run 1 In a typical self organizing network of wireless mobile MANET due to wireless channel 39 s time variability and node mobility makes the link broken frequent route changes to maintain the normal operation of the network the To send the network control information in a timely manner which would now bring low bandwidth wireless link much overhead At a level of performance optimization may also lead to overall lower performance of the protocol stack 2 Meanwhile based on strict hierarchical high level protocol stack enables the network directly from the underlying hope that the information to go through several intermediate protocol layer to get the information updated with a clear hysteresis 3 For wireless network characteristics and problems many researchers propose to break based on TCP IP protocol stack layer strictly limited so that the relevant protocol layer can interact directly for information which greatly improve the network transmission performance VineetSrivastava who reviewed the status of cross layer design and direction of development the definition of cross layer protocol stack architecture for the breach of the agreement reference design and classified as to create a new cross layer interface merge adjacent layers no new interface design and coupling the four global vertical information exchange 4 TaesangYoo other people use NS 2 network simulator built a cross layer design framework for studying the AdHoc network video transmission performance 5 XinSheng Xia and QilianLiang using OPNET established a MAC layer and physical layer cross layer mechanism for coupling 6 NingYang and others set up based on NS 2 physical layer and media access control MAC layer network layer and MAC layer information exchange between 7 The present study were mostly cross layer protocol emulator software based cross layer protocol interaction study focused on a delay constraint of multimedia messaging and simulation software for real time simulation speed and impact of many of the smooth development of for example we have established the AdHoc network platform for real time video transmission experiment on the need to rely on high speed network simulation engine 8 Meanwhile the simulation tools ease of use also affects the progress of our research For these reasons we chose QualNet network simulation tools as we have achieved good results This paper introduces the QualNet network simulator and with our cross layer protocol related information processing mechanism then the application layer and network layer cross layer interaction for example explained how QualNet which cross layer design and then gives the different nodes different cross layer protocol interaction between application design and implementation Finally concluding remarks and point out future work directions 2 QualNet and message processing mechanism 2 1 QualNet network simulator QualNet is used in wireless cable and hybrid network of fast and accurate dynamic development of simulation system ScalableNetwork TechnologiesInc Will the University of California at Los Angeles UCLA developed the open source GloMoSim successfully converted to commercial version QualNet Now in the world more than 50 countries and regions have been promoting the application of its customers are mainly large U S military project contractors including DARPA company NASA Raytheon air force etc has become the U S Army Party Network Centric Warfare and Future Combat System FCS of the main simulation platform 2 2 QualNet protocol stack architecture QualNet protocol stack design follows the TCP IP network protocol stack layer structure shown in Figure 1 However QualNet provides a complete set of message passing allows us to Figure 2 shows a similar cross layer protocol development Figure 1 QualNet layered protocol stack Example of Figure 2 Cross layer protocol 2 3 QualNet message processing To the application layer constant bit rate CBR protocol as an example QualNet standard protocol stack processing within the message shown in Figure 3 Figure 3 QualNet internal information processing First the application layer of the CBR group using MESSAGE_Alloc function to allocate memory space and use MESSAGE_PacketAlloc function to copy user loads a pointer to the packet structure through MESSAGE_Send submitted to the transport layer transport layer using MESSAGE_AddHeader to add a TCP or UDP function first by MESSAGE_Send function is submitted to the network layer network layer routing by routing an increase after the delivery IP header
